Worldwide, the gender pay gap continues to drive inequity in the workplace—particularly for women of color. The US is especially notable, with Black women currently earning 37 percent less on the dollar than white men, a loss of nearly $1 million over 40 years. Latinx women earn even less, receiving just 57 cents to the dollar.
These significant discrepancies also fuel America’s racial wealth gap—an injustice only exasperated by Covid-19. During the pandemic, many BIPOC women experienced the largest pay gap among workers, often losing their jobs entirely.
