KSR Volume Six: Letter From The Editors

Written by Maeve Davis and Rebecca Owen | January 20, 2026

Dear Reader,

As KSR’s first Co-Editor-in-Chiefs, it is our privilege to share Volume 6 of the Kogod Sustainability Review with you. This edition’s theme, ‘Innovation for a Sustainable Future’, is purposefully expansive; we recognize that in the face of climate related stressors, our methods for adaptation and mitigation are ever-evolving within communities, governments, businesses, and beyond. We wanted to provide space for readers to see their own lives, concerns, and thoughts reflected back to them through our content. Some of us may concern ourselves with our own AI footprint, while others are simply curious to know the trajectory of green tech, and still others may want to see our collective climate goals from an international perspective. It's broad, it’s purposeful, and most importantly, it’s inherently hopeful. We innovate to connect, we innovate to inspire, and we innovate to live; in the realm of sustainability, we do all of the above.

We both first learned about KSR during orientation for our Sustainability Management masters program; unbeknownst to each other (and within that same moment) we had both set our minds on being a part of the team. We are of the firm belief that “sustainability” as a concept is useless unless it’s communicated effectively; our brightest minds and our most forward thinkers are directionless when their ideas aren’t shared. Within the climate conversation, this represents the difference between forward progress and perpetual stagnation.Telling a story from the community-grassroots level or amplifying voices that differ from our own serves to show us just how interconnected we are with each other, with our planet, and with our shared responsibility to care for it as best we can. The power of writing is the power of perspective, and this is why we believe that publications like KSR are more vital than ever.

In this edition, we have contributors from an array of different backgrounds and expertises, bringing their individual voices and perspectives to the conversation. We would be remiss to exclude Artificial Intelligence from this volume, and several of our authors provide their unique takes on its place in the sustainability sphere of influence. From seasoned professors to industry leaders, from community-level climate resilience in Morocco to vertical farming methodologies in Singapore, Volume Six crosses sector lines and geographic boundaries to give readers a holistic understanding of what “innovation” can truly mean.

We are endlessly proud of our entire editorial team, the majority of whom were brand new to KSR this publication cycle but stepped into their roles with dedication and perseverance nonetheless. At the heart of our theme (and at the heart of KSR) we all strive to spark conversation and curiosity, to thread the green revolution through business, politics, science, and beyond. Learning is a life-long journey, and one that we hope to both convey and embrace through this publication. Our team ultimately aims to educate, to communicate, and to inform. We invite our readers to take our work and to do the same; in their communities, in their third places, and in their everyday.

Sincerely,

Maeve Davis & Rebecca Owen, Co-Editor-in-Chiefs of the Kogod Sustainability Review
