The Kogod School of Business Welcomes Nine New Faculty Hires

With the new academic year in full swing, the Kogod School of Business is pleased to announce nine new additions to its full-time faculty. These new professors bring even more expertise and ambition to Kogod’s already vibrant roster, and we’re looking forward to the new insights and experiences that they will bring to our community.

Julie Anderson 

Department of Management 

Doctor of Business Administration, Sustainable Finance, Georgia State University

Julie Anderson joins Kogod both as a professorial lecturer in the management department and as the Associate Program Director for the Master of Science in Sustainability Management (MSSM) program. She previously worked at investment company BlackRock as their Director and Head of iShares US Sustainable ETFs for Institutions. Professor Anderson brings a wealth of private sector experience as a trader, economist, portfolio manager, and global business strategist across sustainable and traditional investing, and she will certainly utilize those skills well as a member of Kogod’s faculty.   

Professor Anderson will teach and conduct research on sustainability issues and will help drive curricular and programmatic initiatives and external engagement for the MSSM program. 

Linda Bloss-Baum 

Department of Management

Linda Bloss-Baum has been involved with Kogod’s Business and Entertainment program since its inception in 2013 and is now expanding her role as the program’s Assistant Director. She joins Kogod from SoundExchange, where she served as senior vice president of government relations and public policy. A music industry expert and advocate for artists’ rights, Professor Bloss-Baum brings a strong background in communication law and a love for experiential learning to her new role at Kogod.   

Beyond her role as Assistant Director of the Business and Entertainment program, Professor Bloss-Baum will teach an introductory business entertainment course as well as her already popular course, “Protection of the Creative Class in the Digital Age.”  

Ross Cooper 

Department of Management

Ross Cooper has been an adjunct professor at Kogod since 2018, and he now joins the management department as a full-time faculty member. He recently retired from Fortune 500 company Beacon Building Products, where he handled business strategy and legal affairs, and he brings along decades of experience in business law and ethics, particularly regarding mergers and acquisitions. Professor Cooper hopes to extend his reach beyond the classroom by continuing to foster a relationship between Beacon and Kogod and by encouraging his students to take advantage of their proximity to the federal court system.  

Professor Cooper will teach courses in business law and business ethics, as well as a new course, “The Artistry of M&A: Strategic Perspectives on Buying and Selling Businesses.” 

Shawn Janzen 

Department of Information Technology and Analytics

Shawn Janzen joins Kogod’s full-time faculty as a professorial lecturer in the information technology and analytics department. An alumnus of American University’s School of Public Affairs, he is currently completing his PhD in information studies at the University of Maryland. Professor Janzen is a social scientist with a deep interest in how different disciplines interact, and his research interests include public policy, cybersecurity, and organizational behavior. He comes to Kogod with ample IT research and nonprofit experience, and he’s looking forward to the opportunity to connect the analytics program more concretely with other programs across the school.  

Professor Janzen will teach courses in analytics, information technology, and managerial statistics. 

Khalia Jenkins 

Department of Marketing

BBA, Marketing and International Business, University of Cincinnati  

Khalia Jenkins joins Kogod’s marketing faculty after earning her PhD in marketing from the University of South Florida. She brings account management experience and research expertise to her new role, and she is particularly interested in questions of ethics and equity in the marketing space. Her PhD dissertation explored the benefits and drawbacks of labeling businesses as Black-owned, and she hopes to dive deeper into discrimination issues in Web3 and artificial intelligence. She looks forward to joining the ranks of Kogod’s marketing faculty and continuing to study how consumers make decisions. 

Professor Jenkins will teach and conduct research on marketing, consumer behavior, and related topics. 

Chen Tang 

Department of Management

BS, Psychology, East China Normal University 

Chen Tang joins Kogod’s full-time faculty as an assistant professor in the management department. He recently earned his PhD in labor and industrial relations from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has research and industry expertise in human resources and organizational behavior, and he is primarily interested in improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring practices and in the workplace at large. His research interests also include predictive analytics and the evolving role of machine learning in hiring and HR processes.  

Professor Tang will teach and conduct research on human resources and management practices.  

Angela Virtu 

Department of Information Technology and Analytics

BS, Computational Science, American University 

Angela Virtu received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from American University, and she now continues her career here as a professorial lecturer in the information technology and analytics department. She has worked with several tech companies and start-ups in a variety of positions and has utilized her data analytics expertise to produce operational plans for future development. She has a particular professional interest in predictive analytics and the potential for more accessible analytics tools in the future.  

Professor Virtu will teach courses in analytics tools and predictive analytics.  

Paul (Chinwang) Yoo 

Department of Finance 

PhD, Finance, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 
BA, Financial Economics, Columbia University 

Paul (Chinwang) Yoo joins Kogod’s finance department as an assistant professor after completing a PhD in finance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an expert in sustainable finance, ESG, and monetary economics, and has assisted with research for the Federal Reserve Board. Professor Yoo’s PhD dissertation covered what drives companies to invest in ESG initiatives, and he is deeply interested in how business can continue to weave sustainability into its practices.  

Professor Yoo will teach and conduct research on sustainable finance and related topics.  

Jiali Zhou 

Department of Information Technology and Analytics 

MS, Management Science, Guanghua School of Management at Peking University 
BS, Information Systems, Huazhong University of Science and Technology 

Jiali Zhou will teach as an assistant professor in Kogod’s information technology and analytics department. He joins Kogod from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he conducted research on the relationship between information security and economic and political decisions. His most recent research studied the effectiveness of bug bounty programs, which many large tech companies use to incentivize the public to report vulnerabilities in their programs. Professor Zhou brings his cybersecurity interests and expertise to Kogod, where he hopes to both teach and continue researching recent developments in the technological space.  

Professor Zhou will teach and conduct research on cybersecurity, information security, and related topics.
