How We Support You

Kogod Graduate Academic Advisors guide currently enrolled students to understand the breadth of academic offerings and opportunities. Our dedicated staff will help you generate a learning experience aligned closely with your career goals. Students currently enrolled are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment for a dedicated time to meet before each semester. 

MBA
In-Person
45 credit hours of approved graduate coursework. Capstone Experience (KSB-613) and an orientation requirement: all students are required to participate in the Full-Time MBA orientation prior to the start of the program.

Online
48 credits to complete, 13 core courses, 2 elective courses, 2 in-person immersions. Most students complete the program on a 24-month course sequence, but the program can also be completed on a 12-month, 15-month, or 18-month track.

MS in Accounting
In-Person | Online | STEM
The MSA program is between 30-37.5 credits, depending upon your prior academic experience in Accounting. Full-time students typically complete the program in 1-1.5 years. Part-time students typically complete the program in 2+ years.

MS in Analytics
In-Person
33 credit hours of approved graduate coursework, including 9 core credit hours, 9 analytics foundation credit hours, 3 capstone credit hours, and 12 credit hours of functional specialization (if no work experience) or background (with work experience).

33 credit hours of approved graduate coursework, including 6 core courses, 4 elective courses, and 2 in-person practicums in Washington, DC. Choose one of four focus areas, including business foundations, cybersecurity, financial analytics, or consulting.

33 credit hours of approved graduate work including 12 credit hours of core and 21 credit hours of elective coursework. Students may not count more than 3 credits of FIN-576 Student-Managed Investment Fund  (1-3) towards their graduate degree.

Online
36 credit hours of approved graduate work, including 27 core credit hours, 6 elective credit hours, one in-person immersion, and a capstone project. The program can be completed in 18 months.

30 credit hours of approved graduate work, including 3 introduction credit hours, 15 core credit hours, 6 capstone credit hours, and 6 elective credit hours. Up to 6 credit hours of graduate coursework earned at another institution may be transferred as electives.

MS in Marketing Analytics
Online
The curriculum consists of 33 credits and two in-person practicums and can be completed in as few as 12 to 15 months. The program includes five analytics courses and five marketing courses, preparing students to advance their data analysis skills.

In-Person
33 credit hours of approved graduate work including 12 credit hours of core, 15 credit hours of elective coursework, and a 3-credit capstone project. Limitations exist in topics courses, such as FIN-685 and MGMT-685. A maximum of 3 credit hours of FIN-690 may be counted as well.

MS in Sustainability Management
In-Person | Online
30 credit hours of approved graduate work, with a minimum of 24 credit hours completed in residence at American University. Includes 15 credit hours of required courses and 15 credit hours of electives.

MS in Taxation
In-Person
30 credit hours of approved graduate coursework with a minimum of 21 hours in taxation, including two required core courses (6 credit hours) and five elective courses (15 credit hours). The remaining 9 credit hours must consist of additional tax courses or, with the permission of the program director, non-tax courses necessary to meet state CPA licensure requirements.

Biography

Rene Thomas is the Director of Graduate Studies for the Kogod School of Business.  Rene has worked at American University since 2011. She began at AU working in Kogod undergraduate advising before transitioning to advising Kogod graduate students in 2016. Prior to coming to AU, Rene worked for many years in the business school at George Washington University. Rene is originally from the Washington, DC, area.
