Hosted by Senior Professor Michael Stanaitis and Moderated by Senior Professional Lecturer David Bartlett, this webinar dives into the trade and tariff policy in the US under the current administration. In this webinar, Prof. Michael Stanaitis (SIS) proposes a political economy framework that hinges three main dimensions of tariff policy: 1) breadth, 2) scope, and 3) duration. Using these dimensions as a typological framework, these tariffs can be best understood as falling broadly into one the three categories (industrial policy, economic statecraft, and political theater), each of which has unique characteristics, disparate policy goals, and varying levels of potential policy success.
