The Kogod School of Business at American University is proud to announce the launch of new and updated academic offerings in Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence: an undergraduate major and minor, a graduate master’s program, as well as a certificate and micro-credential badges. This full suite of coursework and experience is designed to empower business students with the tools to lead in a quickly evolving AI-driven economy. With these new offerings, approved by AU’s Board of Trustees yesterday, the Kogod School of Business now offers the most comprehensive suite of AI learning options for students in the country.

“At American University, we know that AI is reshaping every field, and we want our students to understand its social, ethical, and strategic impacts,” said American University President Jonathan Alger.

“I am particularly excited that students in non-business programs—STEM, the arts, policy, and education—can combine their majors with an AI minor. Doing so creates a powerful set of interdisciplinary skills, enabling business and non-business students to launch well in an AI economy.

Students across American University can also secure AI badges and pursue a graduate certificate, further bolstering credentials that pair with their field of study.

The expansion of Kogod’s offerings in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence exemplifies our university-wide commitment to innovation, real-world impact, and positioning our students to be job-ready.

“These programs give students across our university the opportunity to pair AI savvy with their specific interests and areas of expertise,” Provost Wilkins added.

Since 2023, the Kogod School of Business has achieved remarkable milestones in AI education through an initiative that Times Higher Education’s Poets&Quants called “the most consequential AI transformation in business education.” Kogod’s commitment and investment in AI business education includes nearly 60 AI-integrated courses; a partnership with Perplexity AI to offer every student, faculty, and staff access to Perplexity’s most advanced enterprise AI tools; hiring of six new faculty members specializing in AI and machine learning; and the establishment of the Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence, a multidisciplinary, cross-campus hub to drive further AI innovation at American University.

We are preparing students for a future where AI fluency is no longer optional. The goal is to have as many students from as many disciplines as possible become AI fluent, learn how to make ethical decisions, and drive innovation from day one.
