For the third consecutive year, Billboard has named the Kogod School of Business Business & Entertainment (BAE) program to its list of Top Music Business Schools. The recognition spotlights programs that connect classroom learning with the realities of today’s entertainment economy—from music publishing and streaming to live events and artist entrepreneurship.

“Three years running on Billboard’s Best Music Business Schools list affirms that rigor and creativity can live in the same classroom,” said Kogod Dean David Marchick. “It also shows employers across the entertainment industry that Kogod students graduate ready to contribute on day one.”

The Business and Entertainment program was established in 2013 by Program Director Emeritus Professor John Simson, former CEO of SoundExchange and longtime entertainment lawyer.

To see how far the program has come—and to be recognized by Billboard once again for our approach to teaching the future of the entertainment industry—is truly remarkable."

The BAE curriculum combines core business fundamentals with specialized coursework in music and entertainment, taught by faculty with deep industry experience. Students engage directly with experts in the field through immersive trips to entertainment hubs like Los Angeles, Austin, and New York—plus access to industry conferences and visits to labels, streaming platforms, venues, and agencies.

“Our program is built like the industry itself—collaborative, fast, and real,” said Business and Entertainment program director Linda Bloss-Baum.

Students work on live projects, negotiate rights, interpret data, and learn from executives who do this every day. This recognition from Billboard is a testament to the experience our students bring to their very first jobs out of school.”

Kogod’s location in Washington, D.C., offers additional advantages to students interested in the business of entertainment; the policy, intellectual property, and advocacy discussions that shape how music is made, monetized, and managed all happen here. Alumni and industry partners support students through mentorship, internships, and project‑based collaborations.
