The Kogod Sustainability Review (KSR) is a biannual student-run publication that gathers sustainability research and commentary from the university community. Previous issues have explored topics, including how higher education institutions and different professions can promote sustainability, how sustainability intersects with other critical topics, and which businesses have successfully adopted sustainability initiatives.

With the third issue of the review launching on June 4, we’re introducing the team who gathers this cutting-edge research and commentary in one place.

Kareem IhmeidanFounder and Editor-in-Chief Kareem Ihmeidan (Kogod/MSSM ’24) works alongside the KSR leadership team and Kogod staff to lay the foundation for the publication’s long-term success. He is particularly passionate about the human rights aspects of sustainability. He knows it is imperative to ensure that the transition to a more sustainable world uplifts communities and provides opportunities for all. In his free time, Kareem can be found exercising, reading, drinking coffee, and spending time with his family.

Sheik_formattedAs one of KSR’s co-managing editors, Sheik Azharuddin (Kogod/MSSM ’24) is deeply involved in the business aspects of the publication. He coordinates with editors to guarantee a seamless publication process and ensure that essential elements of the publishing process are completed. Sheik has a fervent passion for sustainability and is especially drawn to energy and climate finance, as he recognizes the critical role energy plays in both human survival and environmental impact and actively engages with discussions and initiatives that address the energy sector's challenges. Sheik enjoys exploring DC’s vibrant cityscape, experimenting in the kitchen, and immersing himself in music.

Isabela Barriga_formattedCo-managing editor Isabela Barriga (Kogod/MSSM ’24) coordinates with Sheik and the publication’s other editors and writers to produce student-submitted work. Isabela also works closely with Kogod's marketing team on the publication process. She enjoys coming up with creative ways to tell the KSR story and to expand readership through communications and marketing. Isabela believes environmental justice should be at the core of all sustainability solutions. She is interested in traditional ecological knowledge and approaches from indigenous peoples regarding how to best care for the planet and how these lessons can be applied to create innovative solutions for sustainable development and resource management. Isabela spends her free time traveling, being in nature, and supporting local coffee shops and artisans throughout DC.

Fielding Burnette_formattedFielding Burnette (WCL ’25) is a KSR editor who assists in selecting articles and preparing them for publication. His duties include fact-checking and editing for language and style. Fielding has always had a deep interest in sustainable development focusing on the evolution of corporate accountability through mandatory due diligence mechanisms. Fielding spends his time hanging out with friends at the park and in coffee shops, and he has recently taken up bouldering.

Deanna Alsbeti_formattedEditor Deanna Alsbeti (WCL ’25) has a diverse set of responsibilities, including proofreading, content editing, fact-checking, and content planning. She loves the collaborative process of working with authors to put a KSR issue together and finds it especially rewarding to see her colleagues’ ideas come to life in print. Deanna believes in the power of fostering long-lasting peace through environmentally conscious, socially inclusive practices and is passionate about the potential of sustainable peacebuilding to address immediate conflict, create resilient communities, protect natural resources, and promote social justice. Deanna’s interests are just as diverse, including pilates, drawing, and taking long walks through nature.

Rida Hameed_formattedAs a KSR editor, Rida Hameed (CAS ’26) helps review and evaluate articles to provide constructive feedback to their authors. Her involvement with the publication stems from her interest in topics at the intersection of climate change mitigation and poverty alleviation.
